The Owner

Hi! My name is Rainy, or Emily if you know me in the real world, and you seem to have stumbled upon my website. I’m a somewhat-average sixteen-year-old girl, currently in my junior year of high school, hanging around in northern Maryland. I live with both of my parents, my thirteen-going-on-five-year-old younger sister, and my seven cats.

I have a crapload of different interests, including (but, of course, not limited to) my beloved website (obviously), my violin, and horseback riding. I love to read, but, unfortunately, I rarely have the free time to dedicate to just sitting down with a book anymore. The last book I read took me four and half weeks (And it was Pride and Prejudice, which isn’t even terribly long.) I spend plenty of time with my violin, and I’m at the barn for three hours every week (though I’d love to be able to handle more).

A Picture of Me

Because I’ve been riding horses for nine years, I’ve got fairly good balance. Unfortunately, that’s about as far as my athleticism goes. My hand-eye coordination is awful, and I’m horrible at most (all) team sports. It doesn’t really bother me so much… sports sort of bore me; I can’t even watch most sports on TV.

I have a fairly non-confrontational personality. I’m quiet and reserved, and I tend to hesitate to talk about myself, which makes typing up these “About Me” sections difficult… I don’t have a ton of close friends, but I do have friends, and think I’m fairly well-liked, mostly because I stay away from doing overly offensive or obnoxious things. Occasionally, I’m mistaken for being snobbish or socially retarded, neither of which is true. The truth is that if I’m not saying anything, it just means I either have nothing of importance to add, or am lost in thought (which happens quite a bit.)

Among my friends, I’m considered sort of the “problem-solver”- my friends like to come with their problems to me, because I apparently listen well and give good, sound advice. This probably accounts for most of the “drama” in my life- my life in itself isn’t bad at all. But like my friend Amanda once told me, “I think your problem isn’t that your life is crappy- it’s that you hear about everyone else’s crappy lives, and you have to deal with that pressure.” It can get a little stressful, but it’s well worth it. And I’m not complaining- I love my life, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

I’m an academic person, period. I love school most of the time, and am one of the top students in my grade. Of course it’s stressful, especially when three out of your four classes for one semester are college classes, but it’ll be worth it when I get to college in a couple of years. Interested in what classes I’m taking?

I know that one of my biggest problems is the fact that I spend too much time on the computer, working on my website. I’m not overweight at all, but with as much time as I spend staring at the screen, I probably should be. Does that mean I’m going to change any time soon? I doubt it- I love my website. I’ve been learning HTML and CSS for about a year and a half now, and I think I’ve progressed immensely. All you have to do is look at my very first website layout, made who-knows-how-long-ago, and look at the current layout for RainysWorld, to see it. I’ll admit that I’ve got tons to learn still, and some of my goals for this website include a domain name, WordPress integration, and more. As of right now, I plan to get a career in computer science- perhaps in making web pages, but then again, maybe not.

As I said before, music is a fairly large part of my life. I practice my violin daily, and, like almost every other teenager I know, I listen to music. I prefer older artists like U2 and the GooGoo Dolls, mixed in with newer artists that I deem “worthy” (though I can’t think of any of them right now). I also listen to classical music (though maybe that’s just a side effect of playing the violin?). I will tolerate most other genres of music, but the two I simply can’t stand are country and rap.
